"Powerful Writing Skills" by Richard Anderson is a nice review for editing your own writing. It's a concise overview to add polish to any piece. It's not a replacement for a professional editor, but it's a good starting point. POD books often lack great editing.

Borders posted a $74.4 M loss and is having a hard time with liquidity. They have closed 204 stores and plan to close 16 more by the end of the year. Authors with physical inventory at Borders may want to consider limiting it. Often vendors lose their inventory if a company goes into bankruptcy.

PW says, "A survey of 600 publishers from across the industry spectrum found 64% now offering eBooks w/ 74% of trade houses producing titles in that format. Publishers are still selling eBooks from their own sites 38%, but Amazon is now a close second 37%, while the report found the iTunes store to be the fastest-growing distribution channel with 22% of publishers now offering e-books there compared to 9% last year."
Discussion about moving children's books to iPad and other elecronic formats. Traditionally children's books have been printed on paper, but the younger generations are much more comfortable with screen interaction. With color eReaders becoming more readily available, cookbook publishers are ramping up their e offerings. No longer will there be a struggle to hold down paper pages while cooking. Ideally these eCoobooks will add an ingredients list to an electronic shopping list.
Google eBooks debuted today with over 4,000 publishers and about 3 million free and for-sale titles, which will intensify competition for Amazon and B & N.
