Times New Roman Font History

6/11/2014

Times New Roman Font History - Although Times New Roman font is common, Arial is recommended since it is sans serif. The cleaner Arial is easier to read, especially for those over 50 or with eye issues.

Facebook Advertising Layout Requirements Change

4/15/2014

With the recent changes in the FB layout, the ad requirements have changes. The image now needs to be 600 x 315 px and only 20% of the ad can be text. To make sure you conform to this new layout, there is a grid tool and a power editor. We sure to save your Ad ID#s in case you want to run a successful ad again.

Will robots write for us?

3/19/2014

Aside from factual reports, there are now more sophisticated writing programs. In romance writing authors have used "formulas" for many years. As our lives become more mechanized and automated we will hopefully still give original works our time and attention.

Scanning Traditional Books

1/15/2014

Picture
As we move towards eReaders, many of us still have traditional books. Some are out of print. There is a way to digitize them yourself. Two things come to mind: It may be a more efficient use of your time to pay for the digital version and digitizing and making a book available that is still under copyright to others is stealing income from the author and publisher. Digitizing for personal use from one format to another is much like ripping old vinyl records you own to MP3 format. Also, if you do digitize, keep in mind charities are often selling the printed books to raise funds and some artists are using them for wonderful art projects. Please do not just discard them in the trash. Please recycle responsibly.

Enhance Books contain video

1/3/2014

Video has not become the predominate medium. Enhanced books have video and collectively we all watch over 80 million hours of YouTube per day. Most people like a video that is 3 minutes or less. It seems many would rather see a video than read. It is also estimated that 10% of internet bandwidth is used on cat videos. Not sure that is accurate, but it could be possible.

Follett Higher Education Layoffs

11/13/2013

Follett Higher Education Group has decided to layoff 570 full-time employees. Likely they will be replaced with employees that work under the minimum for health insurance. It will be interesting to see how the insurance will change the composition of the workforce across many industries. As a plus, it may mean since there will be insurance for pre-existing conditions, the 50-65 year old group will now be more appealing to employers. The publishing industry has been impacted with many sweeping changes in this past decade.
