NookKids has new multimedia content. They are launching with 15 new kids’ Read and Play titles with narration and animation, 350+ digital kids picture books. There are already 12,000 chapter books. 225 enhanced e-books with video content will be added soon.
"Ingram is teaming with Recorded Books to launch a new downloadable audio service for libraries. Under the agreement, Ingram will move its downloadable audio content to Recorded Books' OneClickDigital platform with the transition being completed sometime in the second quarter." Publishers Weekly
"Distribution and marketing for academic content has been launched by eLibraryPlus.com. The new service will convert and make content compatible with a range of digital reading devices and also allow publishers to distribute sample, abridged or complete versions of their books by different formats and devices. The service is being powered by Datamatics Global Services." Publishers Weekly
Kindle books will now be available through libraries later this year. The loans will occur through the OverDrive service. Some publishers are declining to make their eBooks available through the service.
February sales figures show eBooks up 202% while Hardcovers dropped 43% and Softcovers dropped 42%. Perhaps we will start to see a drop in the amount of trees sacrificed on the planet. It will hopefully also reduce chlorine use, toxic inks and the carbon footprint of shipping heavy books.
Kindle announced it will be offering a $114 model. To subsidize the lower price readers will see three ads when they sign on.
Amazon and Kobo continue to expand their influence in Europe. As an English writer, this means expanded markets for your eBooks and other products. Often people have English as a second language. When developing your content and marketing, be sure to consider global variables.
