B&N announced it plans to close about 15 stores by April. They currently have 689 stores. Brick and mortar continues to decline for books and other retailers.
As books become digital, so does manufacturing. 3D printers will make it possible to create truly custom products, reducing the need for large quantities of similar items. Shoes and handbags are easily customizable at this point. It will be interested to see if Amazon will enter this area since they are invested with their Zappos division.
